Surge in consumer interest in Air Source Heat Pumps as awareness of scheme grows

Consumer awareness of the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is significantly increasing, driving a surge in consumer interest for renewable heating solutions like air source heat pumps (ASHPs).

That’s the view of Andy Royle, co-founder and director of Leads 2 Trade, the UK’s leading provider of double-qualified sales leads in the home improvement sector.

Leads 2 Trade has seen a significant increase in the number of enquiries they are receiving from consumers interested in ASHPs and Andy puts it down to the increasing awareness of the BUS.

The BUS, which runs until March 2028, provides £7,500 to eligible households in England and Wales to transition to low carbon technology heating systems for heating their homes when their current boiler requires replacing or upgrading.

The scheme increased the grant from £5,000 to £7,500 last October and this, alongside the announcement earlier this month that a change to the criteria will mean more households are eligible for the scheme, has seen the spotlight continue to fall on it.

Previously, households needed to have loft or cavity wall insulation installed to be eligible but with the requirement now waived, the grant is now more accessible to more homeowners who previously couldn’t take advantage.

“We’ve seen a dramatic rise in enquiries for ASHPs on our platforms,” said Andy. “This financial incentive and the change in eligibility, coupled with rising energy costs and growing environmental concerns, has sparked a noticeable shift in consumer behaviour.

“Consumers are actively researching their options and recognising the long-term benefits of switching to renewable energy sources such as ASHPs.”

This surge in consumer interest presents a lucrative opportunity for ASHP installers. Leads 2 Trade provides a valuable resource for installers by generating high-quality, double-qualified leads, ensuring they connect with genuine prospects, while leads can be delivered as a premium, no pitch, no fee fixed appointment.

“With the BUS significantly reducing the upfront cost of installing ASHPs, installers need to be ready to meet the growing need for ASHPs,” added Andy. “We can help them capitalise on this opportunity, so they don’t miss out.”

To become an accredited air source heat pump installer on the Leads 2 Trade trusted supplier network, installers must be MCS registered and be able to demonstrate at least one year’s stable trading history.
